The Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) invites applications for the role of Head of Business Development.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in identifying new business opportunities to diversify the Bermuda economy and expand our market presence. You will create and support initiatives to drive GDP growth and ensure alignment with the Economic Development Strategy. Additionally, you will cultivate engaging and supportive relationships with international customers as you focus on developing a robust pipeline of investors, promoting Bermuda as the perfect destination for their companies.

This position will suit a flexible team player who is a motivated self- starter with a genuine passion for attracting high-quality foreign direct investment. It will require a forward-thinking, data-driven mindset to identify emerging trends and capitalize on opportunities for sustainable growth. Board/Director level engagement is required.


  • Provide leadership and management of business development and support teams, fostering a team-based culture, ensuring positive outcomes that drive BDA and group KPIs across the organization
  • Lead collaboration with all internal teams within BDA, vendors, and all key external partners and stakeholders
  • As part of the senior leadership team, develop and implement comprehensive business development plans aligned with the company’s objectives and growth targets, that support economic growth and diversification of Bermuda’s economy
  • Through an in-depth understanding of the Bermuda economy, identify market opportunities and create strategic plans to attract and convert target clients (supported by market research and jurisdictional analysis)
  • Responsible for the acquisition of new business; lead generation, negotiation and conversion of high-value contracts and partnerships
  • Monitor and report on industry trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory developments to identify opportunities and risks
  • Provide management to the Business Development team and ensure creation and success of annual KPIs for individuals and group
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as may be reasonably expected of the role to achieve organizational and stakeholder objectives


  • University Degree in Business, Finance or Economics; MBA or Masters degree preferred
  • Work experience can replace an advanced degree
  • Economic Development certification such as CEcD or CBDE preferred
  • 10 plus years of Business Development experience and of successfully leading a Business Development team
  • At least 2 years working in an economic development industry or adjacent sectors involved in business development and jurisdictional messaging/communication (economic/government/private sector experience preferred)
  • Experience/knowledge of the Bermuda market, its international business sector and global positioning
  • Proven experience with designing, leading and implementing business development strategy initiatives
  • Experience using a CRM system to manage a sales team and pipeline of leads
  • Proven track record of success in business development, sales, or related roles
  • Solid understanding of business development principles, strategies and best practices
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills at all levels including presenting information at Board/Director level
  • Expert negotiating skills and knowledge of commercial agreements and frameworks
  • Strategic mindset with proven analytical and problem-solving skills to drive data-driven decision making
  • Leadership experience with a focus on team development, goal setting and performance management
  • Willingness to travel internationally
